Community-Wide Assessment Grant: This grant is appropriate for communities beginning to address their brownfield challenges, as well as those with ongoing efforts to bring sites into productive reuse. The EPA highly recommends including planning and community engagement in assessment grants.

Funding: Up to $500,000

Project Period: Up to 4 years

Use of Funds:

  • Inventory: Compile a list of brownfield sites

  • Characterization: Identify past uses

  • Assessment: Determine existing contamination

  • Site-specific Cleanup Planning, Area-Wide, and Revitalization Planning: Scope and plan processes for site assessment, cleanup, and reuse

  • Community Involvement: Inform and engage stakeholders

Applicant: Superior California Economic Development (SCED), a 501(c)(3) organization, is eligible to apply for the grant through grants.gov and is already registered with SAM.gov. This streamlines the process and reduces the time required from Trinity County staff. SCED will collaborate with county staff and the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), a technical assistance provider for Brownfields grants, to complete the application.
