EPA’s Brownfields Program provides grants and technical assistance to communities, states, Tribal Nations, and others to assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse contaminated properties.

Community-Wide Assessment Grant: This grant is appropriate for communities beginning to address their brownfield challenges, as well as those with ongoing efforts to bring sites into productive reuse. The EPA highly recommends including planning and community engagement in assessment grants.
Funding: Up to $500,000
Project Period: Up to 4 years
Use of Funds:
Inventory: Compile a list of brownfield sites
Characterization: Identify past uses
Assessment: Determine existing contamination
Site-specific Cleanup Planning, Area-Wide, and Revitalization Planning: Scope and plan processes for site assessment, cleanup, and reuse
Community Involvement: Inform and engage stakeholders
Applicant: Superior California Economic Development (SCED), a 501(c)(3) organization, is eligible to apply for the grant through grants.gov and is already registered with SAM.gov. This streamlines the process and reduces the time required from Trinity County staff. SCED will collaborate with county staff and the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), a technical assistance provider for Brownfields grants, to complete the application.
